My 2012 Goals

All my life I’ve never written goals that I want to achieve for the year. I do, however, set goals and track them in my head. For example, finishing up my degree, take and pass the necessary exams for CCNA, CCDA, and CCNP, and of course starting my CCIE journey. I did start reading books and watching videos for CCIE written and lab exam, but was brought to a halt when I needed to go back to my home state. After few months of trying to concentrate in my new job, I resumed my CCIE studies by reading the first few chapters of End-to-End QoS Network Design and finished up Cisco QoS Exam Certification Guide, 2nd Edition on the 30th of December – it was my goal to finish it before the end of 2011. My project at work to implement QoS was the big push to resume my CCIE studies. Now, we’re in the testing phase of the QoS implementation and so far the test results are not consistent. I’ll save that story on a different day.

Since I’ve never written my goals, this year, I decided to try it out and see if it’ll help me stay on track in the pursuit of the CCIE number. I will look at this next year and cross out all the goals that were accomplished. Hopefully, I’ll be able to cross everything out, but I doubt that I’ll be able to cross out the two goals that pertains to CCDP.

Without further delay, here are the goals for this year, in no particular order:

  • Finish Internet Routing Architectures
  • Finish Routing TCP/IP, Volume 1, 2nd Edition
  • Finish Routing TCP/IP, Volume 2
  • Finish the new CCNP switching book, SWITCH Official Certification Guide
  • Finish CCIE Routing and Switching Certification guide, 4th Edition
  • Take the CCIE R/S written exam
  • Finish CCDP ARCH book. I was halfway through the 2nd Edition but decided to drop it in favor of the CCIE journey
  • If I can squeeze it, take the CCDP ARCH exam before my BCMSN exam expires

Hopefully, I can finish all of them by the end of 2012. May need to drop the CCDP ARCH all together, however, I really want to finish it since I already started it and also will help with designing networks using best practices. Besides, I really want to learn more about data center stuff anyway.
